The journey from Miami to Key West is a classic summer vacay. You can’t visit South Florida without scheduling in a road trip. The journey from Miami to the Keys is absolutely gorgeous and is one of the absolute best road trips in the States, in my opinion! Key West is the southernmost city in the U.S. — and once you get there, you might feel like you’re in a whole new world. The combination of acceptance, lack of judgement and easy pace creates a euphoric feeling of wanting to leave your inhibitions at the entrance of the Seven Mile Bridge and let your freak flag fly!

Getting There

The drive from Miami to Key West is a beautiful journey. From the beaches to the ocean to all the various keys, it’s like no other road trip you’ve ever been on before. Here’s the route we took. It’s about a 3 hour and 15 minute drive — so super easy to do in half a day. You can choose to take your sweet time or zip right along and get there. One thing I will recommend is to make sure to check out traffic conditions before you hit the road. Timing your departure right will make all the difference. Certain times are busier than others, so be sure to monitor traffic a bit before you leave.
